PEACE
A CANTATA FOR JOHN MONASH

What is Peace - A cantata for John Monash?

Peace is a new, very sing-able Cantata for Orchestra, soloists and choir by Kevin O'Flaherty and David Kram. Peace is based on lyrics by Kevin from his poem 1918 with music by David Kram.

The Cantata remembers Australia’s greatest citizen – Sir John Monash (1865-1931) and all Australian families, Diggers, nurses and volunteers who contributed to the WW1 effort and to Australia’s development in peace time before and after.

Monash hated War with its terrible casualties. He totally changed war strategy to protect his Diggers and later implored everyone to contribute to their communities through their continued learning and effort. He put his faith in Education and the Ballot Box.

  • What was it about Australia which made Monash who he was?

  • How did Australian troops under his command, on 8 August 1918, carry out his spectacular plan which hastened the end of WW1 far earlier than anybody imagined?

  • What nation building activities made Monash so special in our heritage?

  • Most importantly, why is Australia’s key role in these significant world-changing events largely unrecorded and unsung?
